Amazing Fantasy #15 remains the Silver Age equivalent of Action Comics #1 as both a cultural artifact and an important investment for collectors. The introduction of Spider-Man notoriously shook up the comics industry with the premise of a neurotic Everyman gifted with extraordinary powers. There was also a different kind of tragic backstory fueled by Peter Parker’s guilt over the death of Uncle Ben. Jack Kirby caught the eyes of kids with one of the best covers in comics history; Steve Ditko took over the interior art while working with co-creator Stan Lee on this legendary debut.
All that innovation made for a timeless collectible that's kept Spider-Man (and Peter Parker) swinging for over 60 years as one of the most iconic and collectible characters in comics. Spidey is still the biggest star of all variations on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Amazing Fantasy> #15 continues to be proven time and again as a solid investment.
Artist Information
Jack Kirby is called 'The King of Comics' for a reason, during his career that spanned six decades he gave us many of the most iconic characters the medium would ever see. From his introduction of Captain America at the height of World War II it was clear he wasn't your ordinary comics artist. But it was his creative explosion at Marvel Comics in the 1960's that cemented his legacy, over a short period of time Kirby would give us The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, The Hulk, The X-Men, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury just to name a few. Kirby would then go to DC and create his Fourth World, introducing Darkseid, Mister Miracle, The New Gods and a host of cosmic supporting players. Long live The King.
